Women Empowerment and Current Status in India?

Women Empowerment and Current Status in India?

Indian society or global society, origin of life or development of the world, the share of women has always been equal and should be. Just as death is the second aspect of life, like the sun's heat and the coldness of the moon is also necessary, just as water is needed after eating, and just as struggle and success have their own importance, both men and women are like a coin. There are two aspects and without any one aspect, that coin has neither any value nor value.

Initial position

Women in India have witnessed a complete cycle of change. In the ancient times, the position of Indian women was better than men, but again in the medieval period, their position declined significantly. In the early period women were given the opportunity to walk step by step with men. She was given education, she had the right to choose her bridesmaid and she also practiced exercises. They were also given knowledge of Vedas etc. In that society, women were also married at a mature age. In the ancient Upanishads and texts such as the Rigveda, you will find that at that time women were also monks and saints. Gargi and Maitreyi's name is notable among them.
With the turn of time, the situation of women started declining. However, there was also evidence of some good conditions, which suggests that the status of women was somewhat better by then. According to archaeological scientists, it is known from the Mohenjodaro civilization that this civilization was female-dominated. But the period after this was the period of the decline of women and the fall of men. Many evils have taken root in society. The freedom and rights of women were limited and the practice of sati started. Curtain system, sati system, child marriage etc. have become common social lifestyle. Remarriage was also banned. In states like Rajasthan, the roots of Jauhar system became stronger. The atmosphere of the society at that time was completely anti-women. Suppressing women - crushing had become a powerful medium for the domination and power of men.

But they say that in every protest there remains a spark of resistance. In the same way, some struggling women like sparks emerged and reached the top. Razia Sultan who was the first female emperor to rule Delhi. Durgavati, the Empress of Gond ruled for 15 years and was killed in battle with Asaf Khan, the commander of Akbar. Emperor Chandbibi of Ahmednagar fought against Akbar's army and drove out and protected Ahmednagar. Shivaji's mother Jijabai was appointed as Queen Regent due to her ability as a warrior and administrator. There were many women who kept hope alive in the form of a lamp burning in the storms.

Even during the British rule, Indian women were kept beyond independence and rights. Child marriage, sati practice and widow remarriage were still continuing in the society. Women continued to be considered worthy only of household work, men and men. They were denied the rights to education. Till this time, the main task of women was to do housework and serve their husbands. Indian women were officially and physically abused by the British. Indian men also used to exploit under the cover of the British. The situation of women had become very pathetic. In such a situation some social reformers like Raja Rammohun Roy, Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and Jyotiba Phule fought many battles for the upliftment of women. As a result of these battles, child marriage, sati practice was stopped and widow remarriage started. However, unlike the British rule, there were some women who faced the situation and set an example. Kittur's queen Kittur Chennamma in Karnataka launched an armed rebellion against the British. The queen of Jhansi received Veeragati, taking on the army of the British. Begum Hazrat Mahal, the co-ruler of Awadh, led the 1857 revolution. Likewise, other women offered hope, burning like a flame of lamp. Even after independence, however, the status of women did not change much and their status remained miserable at Disney. In such a situation, the need for women empowerment came to be known and gradually the demand for women empowerment started coming up.

What is women empowerment?

Women's empowerment refers to strengthening women. Make women so capable that they can decide their own good and bad. To live in society with respect. They get a chance to equalize. Can walk shoulder to shoulder with men. Everyone can do the work in which they find happiness. Provide opportunity for good and higher education. Equal employment opportunities should be obtained as well as security in the society. We can generally understand women empowerment in this form.

Why is there a need for women empowerment?

As we all know that India is a male dominated country, where women are relatively undermined by men. Women are ranked below men. They are considered less capable than men. Women's work is considered domestic work, husband's service and home care. Every day women are molested, they are raped, they are exploited, acid attacks on them and women are killed. Women do not get due respect in society. They do not receive proper protection. The situation has become so dangerous that the girl is killed in the womb or the women are miscarried. The dominance of men is becoming more and more established in society. The current population of India is more than 135 crores of which about 48% are women, so the share of men in the development of India is as much as that of women. If half this population is removed then India's development will become impossible. Where women have 50% share in the development, it is the responsibility of the administration to move the population of this 50% vigorously, empower them, provide them equal opportunities in every field. Get rid of the atrocities in the society, destroy the evils against women and also provide social security. Until the empowerment of women in this country, development of this country will not be possible.

Current status of women and efforts of government

Along with the above facts, as time passed the condition of women started improving. Women have started getting freedom and rights to a greater extent than before. Women are getting a boost in the field of education. We see that in urban areas, the burden of domestic work and home care is no longer imposed on women. Now these women are being sent to schools and colleges for elementary and higher level education. However, such tolerance has not yet come in rural areas. All the household work is still taught in the village today, but at the same time they are sent to school and college to study. In the villages, more and more girls are not getting the opportunity to pursue higher education, but they are being imparted primary education. Due to the untiring efforts of the government and social reformers, women are getting equal employment opportunities. Nowadays we can see that there is a large number of women employees in every sector, whether in the public sector or private sector. Even though there are fewer women employees in the government sector, they are working more and more in the private sector and giving their support in the development of society and country. To promote women in government areas, the policy of reservation is in force, which is proving very helpful in their strengthening. The environment of protection towards them is now being prepared to a large extent. Now women are doing their work of choice, wearing clothes of their choice, where they can go wherever they wish, live with anyone. Government and law are also helping them in this. Strict laws have been made against abortion, which has led to a substantial reduction in abortion. From the President, Prime Minister and Parliament of the country to women or participation in every field, be it military or government sector, Bollywood or science, engineering or cook, there is participation and dominance of women. However, the ideal society is being limited to a mere imagination. In reality, it is very difficult to build an ideal society, as a result of which incidents of rape, physical abuse, mental abuse, molestation, murder, acid attacks and robbery etc. can be seen even today. Whichever government it is, every effort is being made to empower women.

Following are some of the efforts made by the government: -

• Ministry of Women and Child Development

In 2006, it was set up as a separate ministry, whose task is to ensure the overall development of women and children, equality in every field of society in every field, to protect and promote their rights.

Laws relating to women were brought by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, some of which are as follows: -

Prevention of Immoral Trade, Prevention of Obscene Substance of Women Act, Dowry Prevention Act, Prohibition of Sati Law, Child Marriage Prohibition Act, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, National Commission for Women Act etc.
• Save daughter, teach daughter

Efforts are being made for better education of girls and better sex ratio is being ensured under this campaign. Prevention of abortion and protection and safety of the girl is being ensured.

• Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana

Under this scheme, the government has announced the implementation of Maternity Benefit Program for eligible pregnant and lactating mothers nationwide. In this scheme, women fulfilling certain special conditions, during pregnancy and lactation, put a cash amount of ₹ 5000 directly into their PW and LM account in their bank / post office DBT mode.

• One Stop Center

Women who have experienced violence can get medical, police, legal and psychological counseling support at these centers. Women can also live more permanently in these places. So far 138 One Stop Centers are functioning in 31 States / Union Territories. More than 4000 women have been assisted in these centers.

• Women Helpline

A helpline number has been issued for any emergency or adversity, which works seamlessly across the country. Its single uniform number is 181.

• panic button on mobile phone

Women can use this panic button in case of any adverse situation, a panic button is being provided on the mobile phone.

• Women Police Volunteer

The main function of women police volunteers is to inform the officers / police about violence against women such as domestic violence, child marriage, dowry harassment and violence against women in public places.

• Reservation for women in the police force.
• Involving the attack as a disability.
• Gender budgeting initiative.
• Widow's name to be mandatory on the death certificate.
• Shelter for widows.
• Training of Women Panches in Panchayats.
• Increase in maternity leave period.
• Enforce the law of sexual harassment of women at the workplace.
• Creation of National Women's Fund.
• Women's Exhibition / Festival of India.
• Female e-Haat.
• National Women's Policy etc.

Constant efforts have been made for the upliftment of women and will continue to be done. But one thing to note is that the responsibility of women empowerment is also almost in the hands of men. Although women have also fought for this, they will have to raise their voice now and loudly. Every person of the society will have to make efforts so that an ideal society can be built.
